Protection from Paint
Usually when we are thinking of decorating our homes, we pick up paint swatches from our DIY store, so we can decide between various shades of the same basic colour, all with names like ‘Emerald Blanket’ and‘Lizard’s Tail’.
Now, we may start selecting our wall paint based on its health benefits.
As well as bacteria and mould, researchers at the University College London (UCL) have concluded that Airlite’s air purifying paint kills a range of viruses.
While there are currently restrictions on testing its effectiveness against the SARS-CoV-2 2019 strain that causes COVID-19, the paint was found to kill the human coronavirus NL63, giving the paint manufacturer confidence that it will be effective against the virus that is a daily topic of discussion.
Chris Leighton, Managing Director UK of Airlite noted that “instead of buying a bulky air-purifier, Airlite can do all of that for you –whilst also helping to combat viruses such as the coronavirus.”
It’s no wonder then that developers, such as Grosvenor, areusing Airlite as their preferred paint. Not only can this offer health benefits to residents, it can also reduce time and effort spent by site staff on readying show homes between viewings.
This revelation underlines how we can all play a part incombatting the impact of COVID-19 on the property industry, especially as we find ourselves in the midst of a second wave.
Speaking of what paint to choose, we have some great new features coming soon around choices, so stay tuned. This will also support social distancing by providing an alternative to site visits. Furthermore, if you haven’t already seen them, take a look at our VR home tours, walk-through videos and Spaciable portal. These have all proved very useful for developers who would otherwise struggle to balance social distancing with sales and customer care, while our new feature – My Journey – offers home users a digital handholding tool in lieu of face-to-face support.
So, whether it’s paint or portals, COVID-19 is forcing us to think outside the box, and the solutions could shape the industry for years to come.
